The challenge

Reach students before crisis.

Mental health challenges are surfacing earlier and were deepened by the pandemic. Counseling serves the students who seek help. The university wanted a proactive option that worked alongside the Counseling Center.

The approach

Skills in the app. Connect in a group.

Students learned and practiced skills in the WeBeWell app, then met weekly on Zoom in small cohorts, led by trained student paraprofessionals and licensed clinicians — alongside the counseling center, not instead of it.

  1. 01 Learn

A topic in the app at the start of the week.

  2. 02 Practice

Skills through the week, with in-app reminders.

  3. 03 Reflect

    On what worked, individually.

  4. 04 Connect

A weekly live group to apply skills.

From the president's office
“Mental health issues are presenting themselves at earlier ages and have been exacerbated by the pandemic. It is imperative that we recognize the need for earlier interventions to protect our students and the future workforce. We are proud of the work WeBeWell is doing on our campus and in our community, creating innovative solutions to the mental health crisis.”
