Meet Libna Noor, a Webewell Co-Facilitator!
Q. What is your educational/professional background, and what are your plans for the future?
My educational background is in Psychology, Criminology, and International Studies. I hope to continue working within the field of mental health while also finding ways to incorporate help to my communities of first-gen students and the refugee populations, as well as working to eliminate stigmas around mental health while validating lived experiences.
Q. How did you become a student facilitator?
I became a student facilitator after I myself had the opportunity of experiencing the positive impact this program has had on my mental well-being. When given the opportunity to get to share that with other students I could not pass it up and have enjoyed every moment of it.
Q. Describe your values, how did Webewell help you grow?
My values are deeply rooted in finding positivity and happiness within most aspects of life in order to improve the quality of the life I live as well as improve the quality of the interactions I have with others. Webewell has helped me grow emotionally by helping me be aware of my strengths and seeing how I apply them. The team has played a huge role in uplifting and elevating my growth and skill set while also continuing to inspire me. I've been able to gain valuable insight while building a sense of community and helping others build that as well. When you get to work with individuals who all have the same goals involving helping others you find that there is so much fulfillment in that work and so much knowledge to gain. I am a lifelong learner and continue to learn and grow with each session, each meeting, and each interaction and conversation.
Q. What Motivates you?
Having a positive impact on others, no matter how big or small the impact I make is, as long as it slightly improved and brought a sense of relief or peace to an individual that's something I feel accomplished and I look forward to that. I’m also motivated by the communities of people that have helped me become who I am, I would love more than anything to be able to give back to them.
Q. What helps you focus and helps you manage your stress?
Healthy habits such as being mindful. There are plenty of amazing practices I learned from Webewell that I often reference. Different ways to strengthen my relationships with others and restructure negative thinking.
Q. Who are you when you aren’t at work or school?
I would like to describe myself as easy-going, and spontaneous, while I put a lot of emphasis on self-care. I enjoy the outdoors, riding my bike, Kickboxing, the arts such as pottery and painting, learning new things, and challenging myself. I am a foodie and never pass up the opportunity to try a range of different foods. I listen to a lot of different music, in different languages. Working with the Refugee population has a special place in my heart, being that my parents came to America seeking refuge from war and genocide, I am better able to see where assistance in bridging the gap within the process of coming to a new country falls short, especially when it comes to providing services focused on mental health and wellbeing.
Q. Is there anything you would like to share about Webewell?
Webewell has been amazing. It's been a game-changer in the approach we take when it comes to positive psychology and mental well-being. There's this sense of community you get to build with others where you are validated in your lived experiences within a space that fosters safety and comfort to be yourself. I've found myself often referring back to different things I've learned within the program and have caught myself realizing how much I incorporate concepts and habits I learned within Webewell. The staff has a genuine interest in your well-being and takes feedback in a way that serves students best and is constantly working on improving the program just when you think it couldn't get any better. There's also the accessibility of the app and the engagement within it. It's amazing to also see the data on how the program impacts students' mental well-being, being able to experience it firsthand has also been a huge factor in my interest in staying involved with the program. I'm able to see the impact it has and refer to the actual research that has gone into the way the program is presented.
